About us

Fiddlewicks got its start with Sean Gallagher. Sean was a former network executive at TLC and co-owner of Half Yard Productions, a TV production company responsible for hits such as Say Yes to the Dress, Last Alaskans, and How the States Got Their Shapes, among others. He was also an avid candle enthusiast, which inspired him to try candle making as a hobby. He worked in his basement with a large wax melter and a variety of scents and mixed up Maine Madness, a clean pine scent reminiscent of Sean’s beloved home state. Everyone encouraged Sean to start a candle company, but at the time, he was happy to share his candles with family and friends, who were delighted by his creations!

In 2021, Rossana O’Hop, CFO of Half Yard Productions, had an unexpected loss when her husband of 30 years passed away suddenly. Sean and Rossana were close friends who shared coffee nearly every morning for 16 years while working together, talking about kids, families, and life. When Sean asked Rossana to join him in Fiddlewicks, she agreed without hesitation. One of their first joint creations was Coffee House, in honor of their morning ritual.

In early 2023, after Fiddlewicks had its first holiday season, Sean was diagnosed with cancer. This was a blow for everyone, and navigating the many appointments and treatments became a challenge. “Fuck Cancer” was a new mantra that hit very close to home – and soon became a candle. Throughout his battle, Sean fought valiantly, enduring countless rounds of chemo and multiple surgeries, including a liver transplant. A former Ironman, Sean was determined to beat the disease. Sadly, in July of 2024, he succumbed to his illness. His loss devastated his family and everyone who knew him. Sean’s wife, Deirdre, and his children were committed to carrying on Sean’s candle-making legacy. Deirdre stepped into his shoes at Fiddlewicks, and now she and Rossana are running the business. What a gift it has been to channel energy and emotion into Fiddlewicks and foster a lifelong friendship. They embody the spirit of what to do when life gives you lemons. You transform them into lemonade—and candles!
